How to renew

All professionals have to renew their registration every two years so that they can continue practising. You have a three-month period, known as the 'renewal window', in which to renew your registration.

.

What you need to do

Access your online account

It's quick and easy to renew online. If you are accessing your online account for the first time you need to enter an activation code to get in. You use this code only once. Then each time you log in to renew, you need to enter your registration number and authentication code.

Complete the declarations

Click 'Renew online now', then complete the declarations by confirming each statement.

Pay your fee

The registration fee for two years is 180 pounds, however new graduates are given a 50 per cent discount for their first two 'professional years'. Most people choose to spread the cost by paying by Direct Debit, but you can also pay the fee in full. UK tax payers can also claim tax back on their fees.

Don't leave it

If you don't renew by the end of the window or cancel your direct debit, without setting up an alternative method of payment, you will be removed from the Register. Readmission can take several weeks and during this time you will be unable to practise.

How can I find out my activation code?

If you are accessing your online account for the first time you need to enter an activation code to get in. We will send a reminder of this code by letter at the beginning of the renewal window. You can also get a reminder by clicking 'Forgotten my activation code'. If you have forgotten your password you can get a reminder by clicking 'Forgotten my password'.

.

How can I find out my registration number and authentication code?

We will write to you at the beginning of the renewal window letting you know that it's time to renew. Your registration number and authentication code are in this letter, which you need each time you log into your account to renew.

You can find you authentication code on your registration certificate if you have one. If you have lost your code, you can request a new one by clicking 'Lost my authentication code'.

.

How much are the direct debit payments?

The registration fee for the two-year period is 180 pounds. We collect this in four instalments of 45 pounds, the first of which is taken during the renewal window. For new graduates, the fee is discounted by 50 per cent for the first two professional years.

.

Why haven't I received any letters about renewing?

If you have changed your address since you last renewed, you will not receive a letter from us but don't worry. You can still renew online by accessing your online account and clicking 'Access your online account'.

It is vital that you let us know when you change address so that we can contact you about renewing your registration. You can change your address and other contact details through your online account.

.

How do I know if I've renewed?

You can check the Register to see if you have renewed for the next period. Please note, if you pay by direct debit, the date you are registered until will not update until we have taken the first payment.

.

What happens if I don't renew my registration?

Your name will be removed from the Register and you will be unable to practise. To become registered again you will need to apply for readmission and pay a readmission fee of at least 225 pounds. Find out more about how to apply for readmission.

.

Why do I have to pay a registration fee?

The HCPC is a self-funding organisation and its only source of income is registrants' fees. It is not funded by the NHS or the Department of Health and Social Care. Its financial independence is an important part of maintaining standards for the professions it regulates.

.

I have only just registered. Do I still have to renew?

Yes, every professional needs to renew their registration so that they can continue practising. You will have made arrangements to pay your fee when you joined the Register, but you still need to complete the professional declaration.

.

How do I know if I've been selected for audit of my continuing professional development?

During the renewal window we randomly select 2.5 per cent of the profession to check they are continuing their professional development activity. We will write to you if you have been selected.
